Getting The Most Out Of Each Day – Day 28 – 30 Days of Earth

productive day

When it comes to bringing balance and stability into your world, every sensible Earth person knows that it is a simple equation:  1). Taking an active approach to the doing, 2). Maintaining a positive outlook, and 3). Finding time to just be.

Lets break this down into steps.   An active approach simply means getting things done.  It is making sure each day you check a few things off of your to do list.   Make sure it is a little of both the urgent to-dos and the task that are getting you to your dreams.   Maintaining a positive outlook is merely looking at how you live your life and noticing how your habits and perspectives influence your feelings and actions.   Without a positive outlook the word becomes dark and overwhelming.    Finding time to just be is often challenging for the Earth element, but it is important to be sure that each day you are finding time for you.  Whether it is through meditation, a walk, going to a yoga class or just playing, everyone needs time off for good behavior.

Here are a few tips to get you started on your way to making the best of each day:

  • Plan each day. Planning your day can help you accomplish more and feel more in control of your life. Write a to-do list, putting the most important tasks at the top. Keep a schedule of your daily activities to minimize conflicts and last-minute rushes.
  • Prioritize your tasks. Time-consuming but relatively unimportant tasks can consume a lot of your day. Prioritizing tasks will ensure that you spend your time and energy on those that are truly important to you.
  • Take time to appreciate life and the blessing in your world.   Try ending each day by writing an appreciation and dropping it in a jar on your nightstand.  Over time you will see your jar fill up and begin to let in the giving and abundant world, which we all have access to.
  • Evaluate how you’re spending your time. Keep a diary of everything you do for three days to determine how you’re spending your time. Look for time that can be used more wisely.  We all have those time eaters that just have become habits that could use some refreshing.
  • Take the time you need to do a quality job. Doing work right the first time may take more time upfront, but errors usually result in time spent making corrections, which takes more time overall.
  • Break large, time-consuming task into smaller task.   Work on them for a few minutes at a time.  If you really dread the task spend 10 minutes each day. Once you get started you may find you can finish it.  If you need a break take one – stress and frustration can derail you.
  • Get plenty of sleep, have a healthy diet and exercise regularly. A healthy lifestyle can improve your focus and concentration, which will help improve your efficiency so that you can complete your work in less time.
  • Take time to visual your personal goals and do something to move those goals forward each day.

By creating a daily routine the Element of Earth stands on stable ground thus minimizing stress and improve our quality of life.

Have You Done Your Spring Cleaning? – Day 27 – 30 Days of Earth

time for spring cleaning

I use to have a work colleague who depended on me for all of his Earth.  He was not very organized and had a hard time keeping track of the to-do’s on the projects we worked on.  We would always meet in my office and that was a good thing.  You see his office was one of those places that you might see on your favorite make over show.   Papers everywhere.   In fact, during a fire drill the fire department listed his office as a fire hazard.  Then the fun began – he had the task of going through and getting everything in order.  It may have looked like a total mess, but he know were every piece of paper was and never had trouble finding just what he was looking for – does this sound like you or some one you know?   If you have ample Earth these are the people and spaces that can make you crazy.

How are you with life’s little messes?  Can you leave a mess?  Are you able to laugh at your own idiosyncrasies of order and not get to wrapped up in what others are telling you?  It is important during the spring-cleaning season to let go of our personal definition of order.  We do share the planet and our spaces with other beings.  Whether yours is having everything in meticulous order or you live on the other side of the equation – thinking that a laundry basket filled with clean clothes is a perfect substitution for a closet, trying to work your way towards middle ground is sometimes easier said than done.

So before you take out your broom and dust cloth – spend some time thinking about balance.  Your home and offices is where you spend a significant amount of your day.  Focus on creating a space that is well-organized and a nourishing environment for your daily life.   Either way take a step back and smile at the messes and try a new way of tackling them with joy.

Have You Been Quoted – Day 26 – 30 Days of Earth

Book of Quotes

They are everywhere – those sayings and quotes that get you thinking.  You probably don’t even know it – but your words most likely have inspired and motivated another.   Then just as you start to get lost in the ideas and begin to contemplate the deeper meaning of the quote – life happens.  The kids need to be picked up from soccer, the baby needs feeding, your partner calls and your boss emails urgently — in an instant your motivation and inspirational meditation is lost.   The idea that was so powerful . . . forgotten forever.   But, what if you could turn those motivational quotes into action and they became more then something you just read and forgot.   What if you were able to take a small action step that would help you integrate the lesson into your subconscious mind?
Often we read or hear things that spark our interest.  But for Earth people they need a little more then words  – Earth wants it to be impactful in the real world of doing.   Research has actually shown that passive learning – just reading or hearing – is not an effective way for us to retain and apply our inspiration.   So here we can all take a lesson from Earth.   By adding the simple process of taking time to reflect, dream, journal and believe you’ll become active in the learning process.
So if you haven’t yet visited our facebook page, please do!  Each day we post an inspirational thought related to our daily email.   Read the quote and think about these three simple questions:

1.    What does this quote mean to you?
2.    How does it relate to your current situation or goals?
3.    What are the steps you can take to move how it motivates you or inspires into reality?

This process increases the potential to retain and actually use this inspirational material by 100%.   Just one simple action makes all the difference.   When life is created by getting practical about the steps that bring your inspiration into real world – magic will begin to happen in each moment.

Whose Team Are You On? – Day 25 – 30 Days of Earth

team work is the key

Do you know?   We are all on teams whether we like it or not.  Your first memory of being on a team may come from early in your childhood.   Playing games in the neighborhood or in gym class at school.   Then came the team projects in later years. You remember those assignments – working with a group to complete a task.  Were you the one who did all the work? Did you lose sleep wondering if everyone was going to do his or her share?   That’s the challenge with teamwork – it is great when the team is working together – but not so great when they are not.

That is not much different when it comes to the elements of astrology.  We have access to all four – Water, Air, Earth and Fire.  But sometimes we don’t access all of them.   This month we have been talking about Earth.  But you can’t have Earth without the others.   Think about it in nature.  Without water the earth becomes dry and brittle.  Without air there would be no fire to warm us on a cold night.

It is easy to favor an element or forget to use another.    Today’s challenge is simple.  Spend some time thinking about how your Earth element works with the other elements.   Here are a few words that describe the other elements to get you started.   You may have other words that resonate to you so add them to the list.

  • Water:  Emotions, Compassion and Relationship
  • Air:  Mind, Voice and Wisdom
  • Fire:  Life Force, Energy and Courage

Now take some time noticing the flow and intersections.  Does your practicality cause you to avoid emotions of relationships?   Do you find yourself not speaking your mind when asked about what you are doing?   This is a perfect way to begin to notice your habits and preferences. Set a few goals about trying ways to balance the elements – Maybe you might start an exercise program because you feel like you lack energy.   Perhaps you might read the instructions booklet when doing your next home project.  Whatever you do – life is easier when your elements are working like a team.

Out Of The Office – Day 24 – 30 Days of Earth

Out Of The Office - At The Beach

Could you tell?  That’s right I have been out of the office.   Yes that was me the one with the laptop sitting at the beach.    That’s how it goes with Earth.   They have a hard time playing.   Being born with 5 planets in Earth moved me to the top of the list.   But the nice thing is the lessons I have learned as my Earthy self has aged.    Here are a few that are on the top of my list:

Lesson One:  Earth people can find time to play but our play may look a little different.  Yes I am the one at the beach with my family who is making sure everyone has a chair, sun lotion on and is well hydrated.  But I am still playing and having fun.  I have learned that when I turn off the list in my head the world doesn’t end and believe it on not I am actually enjoying spontaneity.  I just am sure to pack my first aid kit and raincoat – still haven’t been able to give up my need to be prepared.

Lesson Two:  Earth people are all about loyalty – true to a fault that’s Earth.   Over time Earth learns that loyalty is a tricky beast.  Earth comes into balance when they understand that loyalty to self is where it starts.   Only way to keep sure footing is to be clear about where you are putting your feet – and understand your purpose for doing so.

Lesson Three:  Being able to nurture and support you must be a priority.   This is where Earth’s love of list comes in handy.   I now have my to do list of treats for me.   At first this was a little hard but Earth likes to be in service and that includes service to self.

What life lessons have you been taught by the element of Earth? That is your assignment for today.  Sit and reflect about what Earth has taught you.  Write it down and share one with us on facebook.

Day 23 – 30 Days of Earth – Security, Stability and Money

Money Talk Continued

Ok since this is such a big deal when understanding Earth, we are going to talk a little more about ideas and ways to create security and stability when it come to money.   Today pick a few of the ideas from the list below or come up with a few of your own. Once you start your new habits, remind yourself each time you get a little nervous that you have a plan and a list – Just what Earth likes to have!

Here they are, in no particular order:

  • Pay yourself first.  Make this an automatic habit each week.   Pick an amount and each week put this in your piggy bank.   Putting away $20.00 a week can really add up.
  • Control your impulse spending. Impulse spending such as wanting to get the newest thing out on the market, shopping when you’re bored, or online purchases, can be the biggest budget breaker.   Create a step back process – make a promise to yourself that you will wait 24 hours before you buy an impulse item.  Often just by taking this break the need to have it goes away.
  • Come up with no-cost – low cost activities to do with your free time.    Check out free days at museums, zoos and galleries.  Go to free movie screenings offered by your local library.  Attend book discussions or art openings.  These are all ways to stimulate your creativity and have fun that don’t impact your budget.
  • Evaluate your expenses, and live simply.   If you’ve never tracked your expenses, try the One Month Challenge. Then evaluate how you’re spending your money, and see what you can cut out or reduce.
  • Use the envelope system. This is a simple system to keep track of how much money you have for spending. Let’s say you set aside three amounts in your budget each payday — one for gas, one for groceries, one for eating out. Withdraw those amounts on payday, and put them in three separate envelopes. That way, you can easily track how much you have left for each of these expenses, and when you run out of money, you know it immediately. You don’t overspend in these categories. If you regularly run out too fast, you may need to rethink your budget.

No matter what you decide having a plan will help you feel more secure about money.   Remember to celebrate the steps you have taken to create security in your life.

Day 22 – 30 Days of Earth – Money, That’s What I Want!

Money Money Money!

Are you happy with your possessions,  job and income?   Earth is about the material world.  It is the part of you the checks the bank balance, divides the restaurant check exactly when dinning with friends or keeps more food in the pantry then what you need.    Do you keep you piggy bank in a special place knowing that if you ever need an emergency fund you will take out your hammer and crack it open?   That is Earth!

Earth runs the risk of being controlled by money as opposed to controlling money.   Earth wants the facts – it wants to know what the results will be, how long is it going to take, and how much money is it going to cost.   Earth is the little voice in your head that has you living in fear when you think about money.  It is easy to avoid listening to that little voice.  The result what a world of scarcity would be like is what drives this fear our lives.   Fear of losing our job, thinking we will not be able to provide for our family and so on.   Fear is very destructive.  It convinces us we are living on the edge making it very difficult to persuade us to take the plunge and let our money work for us. Instead, we might watch the lifestyles of the rich and famous and wonder why we don’t have all of those material goodies.   Or we get frustrated and blame others or ourselves for what we don’t have when our thoughts go to not having enough money.

Earth is where your money consciousness resides.  Earth is often the banker, the accountant and the one counting the pennies.    They might even be the one who is busy helping everyone prosper.  With some simple shifts it can become more natural to experience harnessing money and having it work for you.  Imagine being liberated and in control.  Instead of working for money, aim to get to a stage where money works for you!  The aim is to move up the value chain of life – not up an income bracket.  Shifting your expectations and understanding of the term abundance is important for Earth to come into balance.   There are many examples of abundance.  Putting those in the equation will help to create a different relationship with the mighty buck.   Today make a list of all of the abundance you see in your life.

Create an Intention

Reflect on the following questions:

  • What are your thoughts on working for money vs. learning to create abundance yourself?
  • What are the arenas where you are willing and trust the natural flow of abundance and wealth in your life?

Next set a personal intention for what you want – create a visual and each night before you go to bed spend time visualizing your dream.

Day 21 – 30 Days of Earth – Asking For Help

Asking For Help

How good are you at asking for help or what you need? This is not a strong quality for those who have a lot of Earth.   You see Earth, has an “I got it all together” characteristic – and they often do!  The list has been made; things are organized and in their place and the mind is focused on getting things done.   What they are not good at is delegating. How much does this sound like you?

The concept of delegation or asking for help can be difficult.  Today take some time to reflect on how and if you ask for help.   Think about what holds you back from delegating tasks to others.   Do you worry they might not do what you ask?   Is it that you are not sure they are have the skills for completing you are asking?   Either way there is a remedy.

The first step is to know whom to delegate to and when.  Start by making sure you are clear what needs to be accomplished before you give the task to someone else.  If you are the one initiating the task be clear about if you want the person do it your way or if you are just looking for successful completion.  For my own children when they were young it was my responsibility to model how to clean their room but in the end whether they did it my way wasn’t a big issue.  However when they became teenagers and they were learning how to drive it was important that did follow my guidance because of the risk involved in driving a car.   Either way the first time I gave them the keys and they drove their siblings I was still nervous but I trusted their ability.  Delegation requires us to increase our level of trust in others and equal be willing to invest in their success.

Here are a few tips to increase your comfort with delegating and asking for help:

  1. Should it be delegated or is it too critical and truly needs your involvement? Make sure you when you decided not to delegate a task it isn’t because of the desire for you to feel indispensable or needed.
  2. Consider the benefits – just think how nice it would be to have someone on your team!
  3. Make sure the person understands exactly what it is you want them to do.  Be clear and ask for what you want and need.  It is hard to guess.  If you are the one being asked to do something for another, if you are not clear on what is expected, be sure to clarify.
  4. Once you ask give the person the authority to do what you asked them to do.  This is the way to show you trust the person.  Without trust the one you are asking to help you may lose confidence not because they are not capable merely because they feel you doubt their ability.
  5. Be open and receptive to follow up, with feedback and questions.  The easier it is stay connected, the more the tasks you are delegating will model the values of partnership.

Happy delegations!  Your homework today is to practice saying these words “can you help me?”

Day 20 – 30 Days of Earth – Let’s Fix Things!

Earth Loves To Fix Things

“You must love yourself before you love another. By accepting yourself and fully being what you are, your simple presence can make others happy. You yourself, as much as anybody in the entire universe, deserve your love & affection.” – Buddha

Earth likes to fix things.  Our life, others, the world around us.  Earth people believe the problems are meant to be solved and there is an answer to everything.  How we see and work on our personal “fix it” project often come from our past experiences.  These include the places where we have felt the sting of hurt, disappointment or sadness. And like any human we like to avoid repeating those experience at all cost.  Earth likes to fix things and problems without hanging out with the emotion.  Getting busy on the doing is the perfect way to avoid and ignore the feelings.  “Just getter done” is what Earth people say as they move full steam ahead on fixing and solving every dilemma and problem.

Earth’s challenge is to incorporate their feeling body and emotions.
We’ve been taught that we have these dark areas in our subconscious mind that are constantly sabotaging us. In reality this part of your mind is an amazing resource that should be trusted. The trick is turning your past experiences that create the stories in your mind in to an ally. Meditation is a perfect way to silently sit and let your awareness observe past, and while recognizing you are also in this moment.

So make a commitment to sit in silence each day for at least 10. Quite your conscious mind – the place where you process your thought – and let your subconscious mind come alive. Invite in your mind to accept and love your as you are letting the stories of the past be forgiven and released. Your confidence and productivity will improve by develop a better connection with the deeper, core part of yourself.

Find a cozy place to sit. Support all parts of your body with pillows. Spend a few minutes seeing yourself as completely strong and confident. Then generate a confident feeling by remembering a time you felt that way. Then read the meditation below a few times. Gently breath in and notice what happens:

Meditation:
I am perfect the way I am
Each experience in my life has opened my heart to myself
I completely believe in myself
I will always love myself and never abandon my
