Day 19 – 30 Days of Earth – Have I Got Your Attention?

Manifest Earth

Earth likes the practical – so today we are going to get very practical and think about attention.   What do you focus your attention on?  Do you know?  What you focus your attention on is where our energy goes.   Energy is a key component to manifesting here on Earth.

The concept is simple.  Start with focusing your attention on what you desire or wish to create and then set an intention.  Intentions are Power – Intentions are a Soul Commitment – Intentions create Magic.  When you set an intention you cut way the distractions so your attention is focused on your true desire which will aid you in eliminate obstacles and self doubt.

So take out your pencil and make your list.  Here are a few common Attention Grabbers to get you started.  Be sure to add your own.  Rank them in order of priority.

  • ___  Relationships
  • ___  Finances
  • ___  Work
  • ___  Family
  • ___  Home
  • ___  Health
  • ___  Spiritual
  • ___  __________________________
  • ___  __________________________
  • ___  __________________________

Now spend some time visualizing and writing down exactly what you want to create through your focused attention.   Start with your top two or three priorities and then over the next few days create and set an intention for each using a simple statement like the one below.

I will use the full power of my intention to create __________________________ and focus attention on    ______________________________________________________.

Don’t forget to add you intention to our facebook page.  Declaring it publicly is an important step in manifesting your intention.

Day 18 – 30 Days of Earth – Time To Play

Have Fun

Do you schedule time on your calendar for fun?   Do you use your vacation days each year or do you save them up?   Not many of us put play dates on our calendars when we get older and even though we get vacation days, often we believe there is too much to do to take time off.    This is one of the shadow sides of Earth.   Not only does it having us believing we are not doing a good enough job – It has us convinced that that life is all work, and no play.

The irony of our life is that even with all the products that create short cuts and the abundance of technology designed to saves us time, we end up with less free time.   When we find free time we use that time to do more and more things – thus creating a world that is getting more fast-paced and hectic.   This is when Earth puts on its super hero cape and goes to work.   Earth is focused, meticulous and ready in a moments notice to get things done.
Just imagine what your day would be like if instead you didn’t try to find more work to get done you dedicated your self to finding more fun and experience life.

Let’s rebel against a hectic lifestyle and slow down to enjoy life!  For a change, do nothing. And do it fully without fear. See how in doing nothing, everything somehow gets done. Here are three challenges to get you started:

1.    Make a play date.  Identify at least 3 things you enjoy but don’t do because you think you don’t have enough time or you have too much work to do.  Maybe it is spending time with special friends, taking a class, painting, or going on a long bike ride once a week.  Whatever is on your list put at least one of them your calendar for the next 4 weeks.    Promise yourself you will not move the activity if the week gets busy and then go have fun.

2.    Unplug for at least one-hour day.  That’s right no IPhone, I Pad, Laptop, video games or TV.  The text, calls and emails can wait.  Pick a time to turn everything off.   If you really want to have fun with this – put an out of office message on your email or phone that says something like this, “I have decided to take the next hour to enjoy life. I invite you to do the same.  I will return messages in an hour with a smile and happy heart.”

3.    Laugh more.   Laughter helps you to change your mood in minutes.  A resent study found that 20 minutes of laughing a day provides a positive health benefit.  Laughing each day will also help you to remain cheerful and in a good mood throughout the day.  Joy is infectious – it will brighten not only your world but also everyone around you.  Work yourself up to 20 minutes of laughing a day.  Start by smiling each time you pass someone on the street, reminiscing about a happy time in your life or just sitting with a friend sharing happy stories.

With that simple shift in awareness you can bring more joy into your life by realizing that life’s journey is much more important then reaching all the high goals you have set.

Day 17 – 30 Days of Earth – You Can Have It All

Fertile Ground

Do you believe it?   The key to getting your Earth on solid ground is to begin to realize the simple natural truth that all that is need will be provided.   If your element of Earth is out of balance it can be a skeptic.  By becoming more open to accepting to this principle,  you let in the natural abundance of our universe and it will flow to meet you.  As your confidence grows it is easier to become a steward of the earthly realm vs the doer responsible for the practical world.  The moment life becomes about stewardship your purpose becomes more apparent. We come into this world empty-handed, and as a steward of life we live with only our heart as the measuring-stick of our success.

Today is all about the fertile aspect of Earth.  How are you tending to your life and your focus?   How do you describe your world?  Are you focusing on:

  • How much you dislike your job?
  • How little money you have?
  • How trapped you feel in your current situation?
  • How lonely or misunderstood you are?
  • How unhappy you are with your relationship?

Your mind creates your conditions.  Negative thoughts become the seeds you plant which grow to become your world.   To have it all we must shift our focus towards more pleasing experiences and thoughts:

  • I experience and feel loved by those I am in relationship with
  • I ask and receive support with out hesitation
  • I am healthy and balanced in mind, body and soul
  • My world is filled with abundance.  I pay my bills and manage my money wisely
  • I work at a job that I am passionate about it

Notice how these statements make you feel.   The simple act of re-orienting, identifying the positives and counting your blessing creates fertile ground for your life.  Be willing to be surprised!  Tomorrow has yet to be created.

Today take time to celebrate.  Take a walk and breath in the scent of fresh flowers.   Enjoy the new leaves of Spring.  Walk barefoot on a soft bed of grass.  Appreciate that you are part of this world.  Earth is about being in the body and feeling the life force of our planet.   Feel the riches of the Universe all around you, it is here for your enjoyment.

Day 16 – 30 Days of Earth – Enough is Enough

Pushing Yourself Too Hard

Earth is an element that wonders, “What if I never fulfill my destiny?”  but deep down the real question Earth gets captured by is “ What if I never fulfill my destiny as I think it ought to be?”   You see we all have in our mind a picture of what we believe our destiny should look like.  Often this vision has developed over time from stories we made up about the perfect life.   If Earth has had the leading role in that story it is likely to be filled with messages of hard work – An attitude such as  – “no gain without pain” or “win or go home.”  Not necessarily bad ideas.

In life there are sometimes we are asked to make difficult decisions and choices.  Having a winning attitude provides a level of self-confidence that is good when you have a clear understanding about healthy wins.    When it goes awry is when messages like above become the main moral in your personal story line.

Earth has a ridiculous tolerance for judgment, pain and self-sacrifice.    It needs to feel ok and good about the self, which drives a desire for perfection and productive results.   The result can be a hard worker that complains all the time.    Watch yourself today.  Notice the number of times you are self-critical thinking that you just haven’t done enough or completed the task to perfection.  Make a mental note when you share about what you are doing or have done that includes complaining about the task.   Or if you volunteer for something or are secretly sitting in a meeting hoping that you are chosen by the group to do something and your internal voice responds with a negative thought like “sure they always expect me to do everything.”  Tonight review what you observed today and reflect on when you became the perfectionist, complained or felt put upon by others.   Set an intention for changing the inner dialogue and your outer experience.   Put it on a sticky note and attach it to your mirror so you can start each day by reading out loud.   Then during the day when you notice your inner voice becoming critical or complaining say the intention you set again to yourself to disrupt your habitual pattern before it starts.

Here are some ideas of intentions to get you started.

  • I am freeing myself of critical judgments of myself and others
  • The habit of obsessive worrying does not benefit me or those in my life
  • The need to be right is no longer supports me
  • I have healthy boundaries and take on activities willing when asked
  • I want to focus on what is right in my life versus what is wrong
  • I remain focused on the positive results of what I am doing

Make sure to share your intention with others today on our facebook page.

Day 15 – 30 Days of Earth – What’s Your Insurance Policy?

What's Your Insurance Policy?

Insurance is a funny thing.   It doesn’t prevent bad things from happening; it merely makes things a little easier after they do.   Some even wonder if insurance is worth it – in a sense you are rolling the dice either way.    We really don’t know what is up ahead.  This is where the element of Earth likes to take charge with the qualities of consistence, routine, dependable actions and choices.   However this is also when Earth can get clingy, cautious, choosing conservative action – start looking for a guaranteed insurance plan, where everything is clean cut and clear.   Unfortunately that’s not life.   In spite of our best-laid plans, change happens.  Sometimes we are the ones who are nudging change to happen and sometimes change just drops upon us.   Healthy earth knows the importance of rolling with the punches when things don’t happen according to best-laid plans.

When the bumps start to happen or you sense your plan is not working out as you though your stress can start to rise and you might become overly cautious.    That when insurance could come in handy.    If you have paid your premium regularly you have nothing to worry about.   For situation like this though you don’t need the traditional kind of insurance.  What is called for is an “Insurance Ritual.”   An Insurance ritual gives you a place to go regardless of what’s going on in your life.  During times uncertainty, disappointment or even overwhelming joy, having an insurance ritual where you can nourish yourself, check in with your true nature and experience the abundance love and support of the universal sources, will help you to feel more in control and provide the reassurance to reach better life supporting decisions.

In creating this ritual, it’s a good idea to practice it on a regular basis – in a sense pay your regular premiums  – so when you are in need of making an “insurance claim” this place becomes a natural and automatic resource.   As with anything, the more we practice and experience the positive benefits, the more likely we will reach for this resource when we need it most.

Today: Create a Personal Insurance Ritual

Step One:  Find a quite place where you will not be disturbed. Somewhere that naturally makes you feel safe and at ease.

Step Two:  Surround yourself with items that bring you comfort, joy or hope.  These items can be kept on display or you might create a special box to keep them in that can travel with you to your special place.   Pictures of loved ones, places you have visited, mala beads, found treasures . . . anything really that connects you to nature and the deeper part of yourself.

Step Three:  Create an opening activity that grounds you and connects you to the earth.   Sit, walk, dance, do what feels right and supportive for you.

Step Four:  Reflect and ask for the help you need.   Be gentle as you explore.  This is an opportunity to build honesty and intimacy with yourself.  Ask for help from the Universe. Let it know what you need. Ask for guidance. Ask for the fear to be removed.  Let go of the emotional charge – fear, worry, disappointment, anger, and sadness.   Just ask . . . listen and then, let it happen! Let it work.

Step Five:  Give thanks and gratitude.   Spend time reflecting and visualizing. In times of challenge we tend to get laser focused on the discomfort and we forget the multitude of blessings.  These blessings are the mainstays of life that are there day in and day out.

Remember to practice often – this will help you to know what to do when you are in times of crisis and help you to develop a supportive habit that you can rely on.

Day 14 – 30 Days of Earth – Who Made Up Those Rules?

Always Follow The Rules

Stay committed to your decisions, but stay flexible in your approach.

So which one are you . . . The person who follows all the rules or the one who sees rule as something that slows you down?   People with lots of the Earth element have the tendency to be obsessive follower of rules and have minimal flexibility with game plans.

Rules come from different places – they might be the household rules.  We all remember those, be home before dark, don’t wear a hat at the dinner table, or open the door for elders.  Some of them make sense.  Being home before dark when you were a child was all about safety.   Some were about social norms such as wearing a hat at the table.  Others were guidelines on manors or kindness.    Then there are the rules which area actually guidelines you set for yourself.

Lets face it; we all like our own rules –what’s not to like they are yours.  There is a quality of the admiration for those who follow the rules. We have heard it “she is solid as a rock” or “he has both her feet on the ground.”   But there is another side that is not – when the rule following turns to an obsession and comes off as controlling.   We often don’t even know when we are doing it.  In fact, the obsession is frequently more about creating safety and security.    You can always tell when you are venturing in the obsession zone.    Your inner voice starts reminding you that if you follow the rules everything be ok –then it has this habit of reminding you that your rules work for you so they should work for everyone else.  At that point flexibility goes out the window.

Earth becomes more balanced as an element when it learns how to be more flexible.  To survive and thrive, we will need to be flexible.  The best way to fight off rigidity is by continually stretching yourself by taking on new challenges.   It is also important to learn how to overcome irrational fears associated with change and control.  When you do you will boost your self-confidence.  Earth is at its highest when it know how to perform with a healthy, relaxed pace; Is able to respects others individuality which includes their rules, schedules and quirks; and knows how to indulges in spontaneity and play.

Day 13 – 30 Days of Earth – What’s Going On In There?

Material Possessions

To manifest your hearts desires you must BE what your heart desires.

This week we will explore some of the shadow’s of the element of earth.

Earth often exaggerates the need for material possessions and physical resources.  To bring your Earth into better balance it is important to start at ground zero and explore the difference between a need and a want.   Do you feel your body getting tight when you worry about not receiving what you need?  Is your mind in a panic thinking about what you would do if you didn’t get what you need?   Or maybe you are the one who has taught yourself to go with out.  This is one way we don’t honor the element of Earth.   The Earth is abundant and every giving.  It is our human patterns and action that create the experience of lack and scarcity.

Earth is the element that can get over active in hording and saving for a rainy day.   My Mother, who was a child during depression, always keeps everything — I mean everything. I remember having to neatly fold holiday wrapping paper so we could use it again next year.   This year as my siblings and I were helping her begin the process of down sizing her house when we came across the box of neatly folded holiday wrapping paper, still waiting for the day when we will need it.

On the other hand, out of balance earth might be living under the belief that he who dies with the most toys wins.  The question is what are you going to do with all those toys while you are living?

So here is what I suggest.  Lets change how you look at material possessions and resources by dropping the words NEED and WANT and using the words SUSTAIN and ENTERTAIN.  How different that sounds and feels!   So today start a new list using the definitions below.

Sustain:  to strengthen physically or mentally, help, support, encourage, assist, hearten, preserve and nurture

Entertain: to provide with amusement, feed, divert, delight, cheer, charm, occupy, play, please and absorb

Write down what you come up with and post it on your refrigerator so you can look at it often.   Just the practice of reminding yourself how you sustain your life and entertain yourself will help you in adjusting your own habits and tendencies around scarcity so you can have peace of mind and experience integrity with yourself, your partner, and those in your life.

I encourage you start each day envisioning your ideal lifestyle with an intention about abundance.  Abundance thinking is about remaining connected to dreams with the understanding that all that is need will be provided.

Intention

My life is filled with unfailing abundance.
I experience abundance and prosperity each day.

Day 12 – 30 Days of Earth – Here Is Your Permission Slip

Permission Slip“Dream and give yourself permission to envision a You that you choose to be.” – Joy Page

Do you remember in school how excited you became when the teacher handed out a permission slip? It meant you were going on an adventure.   We all need permission – it is the notion of

Getting it  . . . Giving it  . . . Taking it

Take a moment to ask yourself what do you need to give yourself permission to do?  Earth sometimes takes us down the rabbit hole of hard work high standards, and impeccable practicality.  Often, we then don’t think we have permission to do anything else.

Today you are to write yourself a permission slip to be adventurous and try out something new.   If you are a little more courageous create a Permission Box and fill it up mini-permission slips so you can draw an new one each morning before you start your day.

Here is a list of permission slip to get you started:

  • Permission to be silly
  • Permission to ask for what you want
  • Permission to make a mess
  • Permission to play
  • Permission to have fun
  • Permission to drop the ball     Permission to say yes
  • Permission to celebrate
  • Permission to say “I don’t know”
  • Permission to get comfortable
  • Permission to bask in my accomplishments
  • Permission to ask for help

Don’t forget to let us know on facebook what you gave yourself permission to do

Day 11 – 30 Days of Earth – Is There A Fire?

Setting Goals

“Things which matter most must never be at the mercy of things which matter least.”
– Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

Earth knows all about setting goals and prioritizing.   Getting anything worthwhile done starts with connecting to why you have chosen to do it in the first place.  Truthfully, the most important thing in life is knowing what the most important things in life are.   Then it is taking the time to prioritize them accordingly. Sadly, most of us spend too much time on urgent things and not enough time on important things.   Do you find yourself always putting out fires?   Earth people should post a sign outside their door that says “this is a drama free zone?”  It is not that you don’t like drama – you just know that it is a distraction from what you are trying to do.

We all could learn a little more about is difference between routine, important and urgent.  You can do yourself a favor and implement these three action steps every time you’re building or sorting your to-do list:

  • Think about the difference between what is urgent and what is important.
  • Review all the obligations on your list.
  • Do what’s important first.

Sometimes everything on your list will look important, which might be true to an extent.  But as you practice prioritizing, you will get better and better at it.  And eventually you will know, without question, when to set aside the important things in order to accomplish the vital ones, like spending quality time with loved ones.

Day 10 – 30 Days of Earth – Is This On Your List?

Organization

“Busy hands can rest a turbulent mind”  –  Joyce Sequichie Hilfer

Thought today it would be good to start by evaluating how much earth you actually have.   For those of you who are familiar with astrology, if your sun, rising or Saturn is in one of earth signs – Taurus, Virgo or Capricorn – you have some earth in you!

Earth people will relate to the following:

  • People can rely on me and think of me as dependable
  • I like to clean and organize.  Often this is what I do when I am upset
  • People think of me as grounded and practical
  • I work hard.  My work is thorough, methodical and deliberate
  • I am goal oriented and I work for results
  • I am often in charge
  • I like being in control

Got to hand it to you earth people you know how to get things done!  There is nothing better then opening up a closet and having everything in the right place, color coded and sorted by season.  Or is there?  Hmmmm – everyone might not agree.   You might be standing back and admiring your work and then someone walks in and put something away in the closet in the wrong place.   Grrrrr – can’t they see the patterns and order?

If you have a lot of earth you might be the person who can act a little like a know it all and those around you might find you stubborn and not open to change. Don’t get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with hard work and know how to do it.   Taking charge and getting it done may be your way of helping out or making sure there is order in the world.  However, when keeping busy is your way to avoid expressing emotions and feelings it is time to stop and figure out what is really going on.

A friend of mine who works for the highway department once told me “ you can’t build your way out of a traffic jam.”  Likewise you can’t work your way out of feelings.   They just are – and avoiding emotions or feelings is no different then a road a rush hour – they only get backed and create a traffic jam.    Now that shirt that was put back in the closet in the wrong place brings you to the boiling point.   This is where water meets earth.  Too much water we turn to mud . . . too little water we become a desert.

So this is the practice for today.  As you go through your day keep track of what you do when a feeling or emotion comes up.  Can you pause and take a deep breath? Or do you try to figure it out and fix it? Or do you get busy doing something so you can distract yourself from what you are feeling?    There is not a right answer, it is only about increasing your awareness and finding balance between the doing (Earth) and being (Water).

Intention 2:

I can accept my fate and know that every problem is not meant to be solved or fixed.
