30 Days of Fire – Day 20

element of fire and music

The element of Fire is the laboratory for experiencing and creating energy.  We all are familiar with familiar energizer bunny that keeps going and going and going.  But there are many more types of energy at our disposal.  We are most familiar with those energies that are powerful and carry a punch, but there are others are subtler and often only intuitively felt. Some forms of energy are familiar friends that we easily recognize and count on. Others come and knock you off your feet.

Fire is the creator of our individual energy current.  Your energy current is part of a great circuit board that surrounds your life.  This circuit board produces and is the conductor of all the energy that impacts you and the people around you.  Take a moment to think what is your “go to” energetic current?  If you don’t know it, you might ask the people you come into contact, they certainly with do.  This current is transmitted all the time by what you think, what you say or don’t say and even what you do or don’t do.  If you keep your energy flowing positively and your connectors to the circuit board in good repair you’ll see expansion in your life.

For the element of Fire it is important to learning how to harnesses and use your energy in a productive way.  Fire is the element that can create blaze through a forest and leave it scared or at times be the small flame that lights the way when going into places unknown.  Either way Fire is energy that is nothing more than the charge you feel by a reaction inside you.  In other words, anything that makes you tick, ponder, feel, or react. Energy comes to us in different forms.

Today lets explore music and singing.  A great tool to build and tame fire.  For example notice how you turn up the radio when your favorite song comes on?  I come from a family that loves to turn up the music and dance and sing the night away.  Think for a moment do you have a favorite song for when you are happy?  Sad?  Mad?  The vibrations that the notes make and the feeling of how your body moves to the beat is powerful medicine to draw out Fire.

Take a break from your computer and blog reading.   Find your favorite song from your play list and then just close your eyes for the entire song, and see what you feel.  Music is one of the most potent forms of energy.  It is grounded and part of so many sacred traditions.

Today . . . Sing and Dance.  Becoming Energized With Music!

Music is the easiest way to shift your energy quickly.  Take some time to create a few playlist.  Title them based on the energy they create.  For example, what are the songs that help you grow your creativity?  What about the ones that get adrenaline pumping when you need a little extra stamina?  Be creative and think about the types of energy that you want to cultivate.  Then, build your list!

I have a few play lists I like to turn to such as:

  • Someone get a hose there isn’t a fire in here
  • Roll down the windows and let the sun in
  • Time to imagine
  • Go Go Go

Each of these list are my go to when I want to harness a particular type of energy.  Be sure to go to our facebook page and tell us the name of one of your new Fire Play Lists!

30 Days of Fire – Day 19

breath of fire in kundalini yoga

The breath of Fire is one of the foundational breath techniques used in the practice of Kundalini Yoga.  It is used to open the chakras wide and increase the flow of energy and oxygen through out the body.  It is a great technique to build the element of Fire.

To practice this breathing exercise, sit up in a comfortable position with your spine straight, your neck lengthen, and your chin back. This will align the spine with the back of your head. Close your eyes and rest your hands comfortably on your thighs. Make sure your stomach muscles are relaxed and the rest of your body is in a restful position. Begin to breathe rapidly through the nose with equal emphasis on the inhalation and exhalation. It will be like very fast sniffing. Keep the breath shallow. Continue at a comfortable pace and establish a steady rhythm. Pay no special attention to the chest or diaphragm other that staying relaxed. You will find the stomach pulses on its own in rhythm to the breath.

That’s it, continue for 1 to 2 minutes when you begin this practice.  If you feel light headed stop.  As you do this practice regularly you will build up your stamina and be able to continue for 3 to 5 minutes.  As you become more comfortable with this practice you can focus on your chakra channels as you breath, see the energy of fire flowing through your body.  Notice the energy entering through your second chakra and climb to the third chakra, the place of fire and power.  As it enters your fourth chakra let the energy warm and open your heart.  Then sit and visualize the fire climb into your throat, then the third eye, and then out of the top of the head.

There are many benefits of Breath of Fire

  1. Quickly oxygenates your blood, thus helping the body detoxify itself and remove waste more effectively.
  2. Builds lung capacity and helps purify the respiratory system.
  3. Stimulates the navel point to generate constancy in both your mental and your physical realm.
  4. Generates heat and increases your level of energy by activating the energy flows in your body.
  5. Stimulates the solar plexus to release natural energy throughout the body
  6. Synchronizes your entire system under one rhythm, thus promoting greater internal harmony and health.
  7. Balances and strengthens the Nervous System.
  8. When done forcefully, the pulsating of the diaphragm massages the internal organs, thus improving the digestive system.

Just like with any new practice it is important you use caution in practicing this breathing exercise.  If you suffer from vertigo or get dizzy this might not be the best practice for you.  You should also be careful if you have high blood pressure, heart disease or suffer from stroke or epilepsy.  For women, when you are menstruating, it is best to not practice Breath of Fire.

Try adding this breath work to your morning meditation.  Happy Breathing!

30 Days of Fire – Day 17

totem animals - the lion

Totem animals are a valuable ally not only when exploring the spirit realms, but also useful when we are on a path of self-discovery wanting to better understand life’s lessons.  Totems have been used for centuries as an effective way to embody the qualities and teaching of the symbol creating a perfect way to connect with your inner spirit and subconscious to explore growth, places you are blocked, and challenges you are facing.

Today, we will look at the quality of STRENGTH.  Strength is a vital energy of the higher self that gives each of us the power to over come blocks and impulses that disrupt us from our vision.  We will look at strength using the animal totem of the Lion, one of the best symbols of strength, which is closely associated with the element of Fire.  Leo is also one of the best-known Fire signs!

The lion, as a totem, is generally associated with a strength and vitality.  It is often interpreted as the positive representation of your self-confidence or personal power.  Lion energy points to the qualities of potency, courage, and assertiveness. Something we all can use in life.

The best way to explore totems and symbols is to find a quite place to close your eyes and visualize the animal.  I like to visualize myself in a supportive environment with the totem when I am seeking guidance.

To begin find a place that is still and quite.  Imagine yourself sitting in a meadow where a cool breeze is blowing.  Standing before you is a majestic lion. Let the energy and power of the lion infuse you with an awareness of your own power and strength.  The lion is here to share its enthusiasm for life and sense of freedom.  Now, without judgment ask the lion:

What are the gifts the lion can give you?

How can you learn from the lion?

What is one thing you can count on from lion totem?

Then when you are ready slowly open our eyes. Notice how you feel about the lion. Reflect on any other things you noticed during your meditation. When you are ready to close this experience say out loud:

I release the energy of my fears and worries and that which inhibits me so I can utilize my power and strength to reach my highest dreams.

30 Days of Fire – Day 16

No Drama!

Why all the Drama?

One word . . . FIRE.  Fire is like a moth to a flame when it comes to drama.  It is the element that loves to be in the thick of it. Somebody does something that bothers you, and then you run off and start making assumptions about why they did it.  Or perhaps through the grapevine you hear something and immediately it becomes fact.  Just like a match, in an instant the flame starts to light everything and everyone that is in its path.  The element of Fire is a pro at finding all sorts of ways to add unnecessary conflict to their relationships, be it at work, at home, or with friends.  The Urban Dictionary defines drama as making a big deal over something unnecessarily.

But try telling that to fire.  It doesn’t work to them everything is a big deal!  But fighting fire with fire is good only if you are trying to control a raging wilderness inferno.  It’s not so good if you are trying to eliminate needless petty conflicts from your life.

Drama Sucks! Here are a few things you can do to reduce the drama in your life.

  • It starts with you.  Recognize when you might be creating drama.  Often drama is nothing more then our reacting to the actions of others.  Time to let go of your need to be in control and think, “does this really matter in the long run?”
  • Take a step back so you can get a new perspective.  A lot of drama happens when we are attached to a situation or an outcome.  The trick here is to grow your capacity to be neutral by asking will this matter a year from now?  Before hitting the send button on the email, just write it and wait a day or two before send. Let the flame calm down.
  • Let others keep their drama.  Even if you are the one person that people come to, it doesn’t mean you need to drop everything, dive in and take charge.  Practice asking yourself, “what is mine and what isn’t?”  If you only join when you are clear that what is happening includes you, you will be less likely to fight other people’s battles.
  • Be clear and straight with people.  A lot of drama comes from poor communication.  Take time to listen without reacting and then follow up to get clarity.  A lot of drama in life comes from our interpretation of things from our experiences.  It is the difference between intention and impact.  The ouches and bumps we often feel are based on something we experienced in the past.  Trust is one of Fire’s least favorite qualities. Fire has a hard time taking down the armor and just communicating.
  • Take a moment before you react.  It might not be drama.  Sometimes it is someone reaching out to you at a true time of need.  Or your bad day is not about what is happening in the moment you are in.  Passing and breathing will help you slow down your reaction so you don’t end up treating a friend poorly because you had a difficult day at work.

30 Days of Fire – Day 15

compassionate competition

Growing up everyone has received messages about competition.  We had field day, been part of a club, tried out for a sport or cheerleading.  Take a moment to think about yours.  Mine was as a gymnast.  I remember my coach telling met “no pain no gain.”  I would show up at the gym and compete with myself.  My fire wanted to win at all cost.  Then, I got a little older and my work was all about collaboration, but deep down I knew the group was really just cooperating.  Secretly, everyone on the team wanted to be recognized as being the best.  Raises and promotions were based on individual achievement.

The truth of the matter is in a world of competition it may feel impossible to survive without being competitive.  Competitiveness is the seed that push us to excel and to do better.  In work and in school the goal post is well defined before you begin the race.  Then, we pass the finish line and the celebration begins and we start off to the next race.  Over time you may not know when to stop or even recognize when you are so far out in front that you are standing alone.  This is when the wins begin to stop bringing the satisfaction and joy we imagined.  In fact, sometimes all we are left with is the stress, emotions and insecurity.

Fire doesn’t come with an off switch.  It needs to learn know to put itself out or at least turn down the heat.  It is ambitious and thinks it is invincible.  Fire can burn out of control when it is only thinking about the win.  What if we could transform the ordinary daily competitiveness we encounter?

When the element of Fire has matured it has learned how to be compassionately competitive and work towards growth for all vs. just themself.  This is the desire to grow with others not at the cost of others.  When this happens your life becomes not about winning the race, it becomes about join the race with creativity and connection.  It is the catalyst of change.  Being compassionately competitive creates inner richness that syncs love, passion and fearlessness with emotions, mindfulness and kindness.  Instead of being the rebel, fire energy can be harmonious and playful.  This is the element of fire that inspires and leads from within.

Today, take time to ponder these questions:

  • How can you be both powerful and softly venerable?
  • How can you embrace the emotional side of action and be sensitive to others?
  • How can you remain connected to others while honoring your need for freedom?

Then, begin to identify the core beliefs or stories you carry that block you from stepping into compassionate competition.  Then, metabolize and send away what no longer serves you.  Fire needs to move to release so turn the radio up loud and dance and sing.  Let your body and voice bring you to a new relationship with the word competition.

30 Days of Fire – Day 14

dream is in focus now what?

Ok so now you what? You have your dream’s in focus, your vision clear and your intention made.

Your Intention is:
     POWER
     OWNERSHIP
     COMMITMENT

Here is where one of the not so positive sides of the element of Fire might show up. You see when you cut away the distraction and eliminate the obstacles your fire might get a little stoked and your competitive side might decide to charge forward.

Charging forward is not a bad thing. It is ok to be courageous, bold and confident. In fact those are very important qualities for taking leadership and accomplishing goals. It is when these qualities bring out that not so popular ego-centered, dominatrix or macho man archetype. That when we all need to pause and turn down the internal heat. When the temperature of Fire is hot the shadow side might come out and singe those who get to close. Here are a few tips help build healthy fire that is less likely to burn those in your path:

  • Gain a greater awareness on how your achievements benefit others. This warms your heart and will remind you that relationships are an important part of every dream and goal. Fire will not keep burning if it is in a room all by its self.
  • Enlist a fireman. Find a coach to serve in this role. A coach is a gift you give yourself. It is a neutral ally that helps you see what is just outside of your awareness. Ask them for feedback to help you see when you’re burning out of control or when you need to turn up the heat because you’re becoming passive about your goals.
  • Remember nothing is itself without everything else. Remember to come back to your vision and dream often. The goals and forward progress are pieces and are part of the big picture.

When balanced and using the gifts of the other elements, Fire’s temper and demeanor mellows and becomes more focused, creating a gift of intense but inspiring, radiant passion. We all loved to be on the receiving end of Fire’s energy when it is conscious and kind.

30 Days of Fire – Day 13

Wish Upon A Star - 30 Days of Fire

We hope you enjoyed your July 4th holiday!  Many families and communities celebrated with barbeques and picnics and when the sky turns dark they head to the Fireworks show.  I remember as a child sitting on the hill holding my sisters hand as we marveled at the bright colors.  Then, my dad would give us a sparkler for each hand and we would run laughing with joy.  We often would try to write our names quickly so we could “see our name in lights.”  Then, sadly, the sparkler would go out and we drop it in a bucket of water to be sure the hot piece of metal that remained wouldn’t burn us.  Sound familiar?

Have you ever gotten so close to a dream that you could feel it – see it filling the dark night with light and excitement? Then, in an instant, it is gone.  Just like the fireworks and sparklers on fourth of July.  Fire sometimes needs to smolder.  It doesn’t stop existing when the flames and sparks are gone.  Maybe it needs a little more fuel or air to grow again.  So, today as your week begins, start by going to a cozy place and visualize your own firework show.  With each firework that fills your mind call back one of those dreams that has lost its spark.

Then tonight – look up and appreciate the stars.  They are still there bright and constant.  Make a wish and know that star isn’t going anywhere. It will keep twinkling holding your intention.

30 Days of Fire – Day 12

Manifesting Your Goals and Vision

We all have the ability to manifest – often it is our own self-doubt that blocks the universe’s natural flow.  Just look around you. Are there things in your home, work life or relationship realm that you wished for that have shown up? My guess is there are – the bigger question to ask yourself is do you think you have them because of hard work? If so that’s the element of Earth stepping in and taking all the credit for getting things done. But what if you gently nudge Earth to the side and let the other elements join the party? Lets add a little Water to the mix and recognize the times when your intuition guide you along the way and the times that your mind could embrace the concept and idea so clearly that you knew it would happen. And YES now comes in Fire – that fire in the belly energy that charges you up to boldly go into the unknown to you’re your heart and soul desire. I sometimes like to think that of the element of Fire as the off and on switch for manifesting. If the energy isn’t building for what you desire it is next to impossible for change to happen. Passion for what you want is a critical component to manifesting. Time to practice and use that on and off button!

Today, we share a simple practice for manifesting. Start small because it will give you more belief in yourself and this natural available energy.

Start by finding a quite place where you will not be interrupted. Take several deep breaths. Breathing grace – exhale ease.

  1. Visualizing exactly what you want. Not much different that we talked about earlier this week. This process is helps you to mirror the energetic vibration of what you are want to manifest. This might sound a little strange. But this is so natural – think about when you have just had a wonderful meal or are feeling joy because of spending time with someone you love. You just feel different. That is mirroring the energetic vibration of what you are experiencing. In a manifesting meditation you are letting yourself feel yourself feel what you wish to attract it as if it already exists. See all aspects. Know that is happening right now, that this desire has already begun to come true. This points the universe to exactly what you wish to attract.
  2. Take any self-doubt and uncertainty that may exist and see it leaving your body. For some it helps to visualize all qualities being pulled from you and going into a big ball. Then throw this ball way out into the universe. Command the energies that hold you back to leave your body.
  3. Next fill yourself your mind and energetic body with the qualities of certainty, confidence and delight. Let yourself know that these qualities exist in you. Have these qualities fill in all the cracks and crevasses where your ego might hide.
  4. Finally go back to your vision. Know it is happening in this moment.

Slowly when you are ready come back into from your meditation.  As we practiced earlier this month. Be sure to journal, speak and see each day examples of your desire coming true in your life. Turn of your mind trying to figure our and plan how it will happen. Just Breath – Believe – and Receive. Watch the magic happen.

30 Days of Fire – Day 11

Creating Powerful Vision

Three Steps To Creating A Powerful Vision For Your Life

Get clear on what you want.

That might seem a little obvious, but for most of us our ideas often are a little fuzzy.   That is why we have spent the last several days flexing the muscle of the imagination and dream about what can and is possible.  Time to, if you haven’t already, dig up those long-lost dreams and make them a reality.  Focus on what you love to do.  Ask yourself if money didn’t matter what would you be doing.   Then embrace how you would feel.

Write it out.

Time to take that vision you worked on day 10 and actually write it down.   Be sure to write down what things would look like when your vision is creating the life you are living full force.  Filled with fire and spice.    If you are willing make sure to include some of the things you wrote about on Day 9 but put them now into action words.  So for example if your future story talked about your dream job, your dream partner, your dream body, write it them now as a goal.  For example “I will be working as a editor in 3 years. ”

Give it attention, daily.

Each day spend time giving it attention.  Sit down and meditate on your vision.  I also like to spend time each night before bed visualizing my dream and then acknowledging each day the seeds of change that are happening to make my vision a reality.  For example if the goal is have a healthy life style.  Acknowledge that you walked to lunch instead of driving.   This is so important each day there are little signs and changes that are happening when we are manifesting our dreams that go unnoticed.  But if we recognize them and give gratitude they help our mind, body and soul bring our energy to present time and release the trap parts of our ego that is busy looking for ways to remind us our dreams can’t come true.   Then visuals your dream as reality. Make it so real you can feel it. When you get to this place where you can feel it, then you are in the process of manifesting.

Tomorrow, we will share a manifesting meditation sure to help you on your journey to build fire to create the personal transformation.
