Day 23 – 30 Days of Earth – Security, Stability and Money

Money Talk Continued

Ok since this is such a big deal when understanding Earth, we are going to talk a little more about ideas and ways to create security and stability when it come to money.   Today pick a few of the ideas from the list below or come up with a few of your own. Once you start your new habits, remind yourself each time you get a little nervous that you have a plan and a list – Just what Earth likes to have!

Here they are, in no particular order:

  • Pay yourself first.  Make this an automatic habit each week.   Pick an amount and each week put this in your piggy bank.   Putting away $20.00 a week can really add up.
  • Control your impulse spending. Impulse spending such as wanting to get the newest thing out on the market, shopping when you’re bored, or online purchases, can be the biggest budget breaker.   Create a step back process – make a promise to yourself that you will wait 24 hours before you buy an impulse item.  Often just by taking this break the need to have it goes away.
  • Come up with no-cost – low cost activities to do with your free time.    Check out free days at museums, zoos and galleries.  Go to free movie screenings offered by your local library.  Attend book discussions or art openings.  These are all ways to stimulate your creativity and have fun that don’t impact your budget.
  • Evaluate your expenses, and live simply.   If you’ve never tracked your expenses, try the One Month Challenge. Then evaluate how you’re spending your money, and see what you can cut out or reduce.
  • Use the envelope system. This is a simple system to keep track of how much money you have for spending. Let’s say you set aside three amounts in your budget each payday — one for gas, one for groceries, one for eating out. Withdraw those amounts on payday, and put them in three separate envelopes. That way, you can easily track how much you have left for each of these expenses, and when you run out of money, you know it immediately. You don’t overspend in these categories. If you regularly run out too fast, you may need to rethink your budget.

No matter what you decide having a plan will help you feel more secure about money.   Remember to celebrate the steps you have taken to create security in your life.
